As Finland is a very small country on the top of the world (that is to say far North in Europe) I thought it would be a good idea to write a small introduction to the country and our people, as we're the majority here. There's about 5 million of us. We speak our own language, Finnish. We are sandwiched between the Russia and Sweden, in a country shaped like a one-armed woman. The Russians took the other arm a few decades ago. :( About 80% of us are Evangelical Lutheran by religion, about 1% is Orthodox Christians, and about 17% (growing) is not religious at all. A percentage of 1.3% belong to "other" religious group. Both Evangelical and Orthodox churches belong to Christian religions. I believe though, that the majority of Finns listed as Lutherans are registered as Lutherans by name only an haven't bothered to change their status to non-religious. Finland doesn't really have a presence of any other major religion, such as Muslim or Catholics, and those individuals that belong into those religions are mostly migrants. Politically, Finland is a democratic country led by a female president Tarja Halonen. Speaking of females and their positions, Finland was the first nation in Europe to grand voting rights to women in 1906, and second only to New Zealand in the world.
