Articles - Customizing Barbie

Intro by Sebastyne:

Fully jointed dolls are now very much én vogue on our  board. This following tutorial is written by the Tuning Super Woman Marikah, and will explain how you can give a pair of jointed legs for a jointed armed FF doll or other doll you would like to turn jointed. (Many of us are not fond of the standard jointed Barbie, who has fairly ungly joints and hands.) If you are one of those people saddened by the fact you can't find a pretty jointed girlfriend for the Raider Ken, this is your solution! In any case, the jointed dolls are a lot more fun to play with and to photograph (same thing, really) than the stiff dust collectors on the shelves. (The one's you pay your arm and leg for...) Anyway, read it and scatter off to the flea market for treasure hunting!

Articles - Customizing Barbie

When was the last time you found an old second hand Barbie, that you thought was a lost cause? Personally, these are excatly the dolls I'm looking for, dolls, that other girls think nothing of. Bringing an old doll to life is rewarding to say at least.

This doll was the one who really surprised me. When I first found her, her hair was a complete mess, she was dirty and smelled bad. I didn't really believe I could do much for her, but I felt so bad about the way she'd been treated, that I paid the 4,50 euros the owner asked for her to give her a better home. The least I could do, would be giving her a bath, and try to comb the hair - and get rid of the awful dress she was wearing.

In the following you will be instructed on how to restore a second hand Barbie into her former glory without complicated methods. This is simple and safe way to do it - provided that you have a Mattel made genuine Barbie-doll made before the year 1973. If you suspect that your Barbe could be older than that, do not go ahead with this. The number 1966 in the dolls back does NOT refer to a manufacturing year, but can be found on dolls made in the late 70's up to early 2000's.

This article will advice you on rerooting your Barbie's hair. This means you will actually change the hair into new by sewing it in.
